Shireka is a Prince George’s County native. She was educated in the Prince George’s County Public School system. She has been a Seat Pleasant resident since 2006 and a homeowner since 2020. In 2016, Ms. McCarthy became the youngest elected official in the history of Seat Pleasant.

A proud first-generation college graduate, she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work from Coppin State University one of MDs HBCUs and holds a Master of Social Work from Howard University. She is a licensed social worker in Maryland and Washington, DC.
Shireka is an active member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
In my first term as your councilmember, I fought to make our streets safe, keep residential taxes low, and expand services.
In my second term, I focused on a transparent government and fiscal responsibility while navigating the challenges of the COVID 19 pandemic.
